Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Der Läufer is based on a real Swiss criminal case from the early 2000s, transposing the dark double life of the Bernese top athlete and cook Mischa Ebner into a present-day setting.
- Producer Stefan Eichenberger said the film is a fictional work that draws on the real case, but that out of consideration for the victims and the people involved it is not a straight retelling.
- After Der Läufer opened in Swiss cinemas in early October 2018, it scored the best opening of any Swiss film that year.
