Plot summary
Leon, a graduate student, gathers five college students at his apartment and describes his newest creation, The Great All-Nighter, a dusk-to-dawn hunt for clues placed around Los Angeles. He tells them to form teams. The leaders refuse at first, but their rivalries with one another lead all five to sign up by the time the game starts, a response Leon had already predicted. Adam leads the Yellow Team, which plays fair, while Harold leads the Blue Team, which cheats. The Green Team comes from the football squad, the Red Team from an unpopular sorority, and the White Team from the debate club. Leon follows every team from Game Control in his apartment with a giant map and radio equipment. His landlady, Mrs. Grimhaus, already dislikes the noise he makes, and he faces eviction if other tenants complain.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Midnight Madness (1980)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Midnight Madness was Michael J. Fox's first film, and he was credited in the movie simply as Michael Fox.
- Midnight Madness, itself inspired by The Game run in the 1970s, in turn inspired a new version of a non-stop 24- to 48-hour puzzle-solving race created by Joe Belfiore; it was first named BARF (Bay Area Race Fantastique), a tribute to a member of Team Blue, before the name reverted to The Game.
- Midnight Madness was only the second film from Disney, after The Black Hole, to be rated anything other than a G, and the studio put it out without the Disney name because of its more adult themes.
- A 2004 Disney DVD of Midnight Madness, carrying the "Walt Disney Pictures Presents" logo, marked the first time the studio had openly associated with the film, after earlier editions from Anchor Bay Entertainment.
