Plot summary
Michel Vaillant is the most famous driver of Vaillante, the team his father Henri owns and his brother Jean-Pierre manages. He wins rallies with his teammate Steve Warson, and Vaillante buys engines to enter the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Leader, the old rival team, returns to racing under Ruth Wong, the founder's daughter, and announces it will run the number 13, the number Élisabeth, Michel's mother, saw in a nightmare about a crash at the race. Leader signs Bob Cramer, the rival Michel beat in Canada. When Vaillante driver David Wood dies in a crash at the Rally of Italy, Michel meets Wood's widow Julie, who asks him for a favor, and he persuades his brother to give her a place on the team.
