Plot summary
Cunning Stunts collects two Metallica shows staged at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Texas on 9 and 10 May 1997, while the band was touring behind its 1996 album Load. The footage came out on DVD and VHS, and on LaserDisc in Japan. Besides the songs, the release carries conversations with the band, a documentary, backstage material and a gallery of some 1,000 photographs, several later used on the sleeves for Reload. Three performances can be watched from more than one angle. For 'Enter Sandman', the staging is rigged so that it seems to fall apart and blow up, and a crew member the extras call the 'Burning Dude' crosses it while on fire, with a second crew member swinging overhead. It is among the few Metallica concerts that do not open with 'The Ecstasy of Gold'.
