Plot summary
The word meskina means a pity case, and it is what Leyla Idrissi's Moroccan-Dutch community calls her, because she is in her thirties, still single and still without a career. Her family want her coupled and see her the way the community does. Around her are her older sister Amira and Amira's husband Klaas, her mother Najat and her cousin Malika, and Abdelkarim, the husband she divorced. Leyla is an aspiring children's author, and she sets out to go after professional success and true love.
