Plot summary
Five murders in 1995 leave the police without an arrest. Each time, the killer forces someone close to the victim to watch the strangling, then lets the witness go to tell the media what happened. Makimura, the detective in charge of the investigation, never catches him, and his superior is killed as well. Twenty-two years on, with time running out on the case, a man named Masato Sonezaki states that the 1995 killings were his work. A loophole in the law keeps the police from arresting him. He publishes a book about the cases, and the media and social media give him so much attention that he becomes the talk of the town.
