Plot summary
Sam Merrick, a soft-spoken teenager in a small Oregon town, is beaten by George Tooney, the school bully. Sam tells his older brother Rocky, who shares the story with his friends Clyde and Marty. They devise a plan: invite George on a river trip for Sam's birthday, then humiliate him by taking his clothes during truth or dare and making him run home naked. Sam invites his girlfriend Millie along. On the drive, George seems pleased to be included and mentions that he is dyslexic. Sam waits until they near the river to tell Millie the real purpose of the trip. She refuses to continue unless he promises to call the plan off. Sam approaches Rocky, who talks it over with Clyde and Marty; Marty does not want to stop. As the trip goes on, George tries to fit in.
