Plot summary
At Central High, David is reunited with Mark, whom he once rescued from trouble at their old school; Mark now runs with Bruce, Craig and Paul, the bullies who control the student body. Mark suggests that David could treat school like a country club if he befriends the three. Instead David watches them torment Spoony, Oscar, Arthur, the librarian who is hearing-impaired, and Rodney, whose rundown car they vandalize. David forcibly stops the trio when they set upon Mary and Jane in a classroom, so the three give Mark one last chance to persuade David to stay out of their business. David has taken a liking to Theresa, Mark's girlfriend, and the trio decide to handle him themselves.
