Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Masculin Féminin (1966)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Masculin Féminin began as an adaptation of two Maupassant short stories, The Signal and Paul's Mistress, whose rights Dauman secured. When filming started Godard discarded both, and Maupassant's publishers agreed the film was in no way an adaptation of the author's work.
- France prohibited anyone under 18 from seeing Masculin Féminin because of its portrayal of youth and sex, and Godard complained that the ban barred the very audience the film was meant for.
- Godard worked without a shooting script, relying instead on a spiral notebook of ideas, sketches and dialogue that he had handwritten the previous evening.
- Godard chose the singer Chantal Goya for the film because she had never acted on film or stage; Daniel Filipacchi had introduced them on 7 November 1965.
