Madison County (2011) on Netflix

Plot summary

College students James and Will drive to Madison County, Arkansas, with Will's girlfriend Brooke, her friend Jenna and Brooke's protective older brother Kyle, so James can interview David Randall, the author of a book about a murderer named Damien Ewell. A trucker offers them a shortcut along the way. In a diner, the locals stare at them, and Erma, an old woman, tells them Damien Ewell does not exist and that David Randall moved away years ago, though she gives them his old address. The group finds David's house empty, and a local threatens Will over a photograph of his truck until Kyle steps in.
