Plot summary
Helena Citron, a young Jewish woman, is taken to Auschwitz, where she sings and draws the notice of Franz Wunsch, an SS officer. He falls in love with her and her singing. A relationship forms between them, one that would mean execution if it were discovered, and it lasts while she is held in the camp. Three decades after the war, a letter from Wunsch's wife reaches Helena, asking her to speak on his behalf. Helena is left to decide whether to testify for the man responsible for so much suffering, who also saved her life and the lives of several people closest to her.
