Plot summary
In 2048, global warming has left most of the world's land under water. John Kubiak and his adopted sons, Jack and Thomas, dive sunken buildings for salvage they can sell, and Cardinal Battaglia of the New Vatican wants the family for a project of his own: recovering a scepter that legend credits with ruling the sea. Real estate tycoon Nicholas Filiminov pursues the same relic, and he brings in Giovanna Becker, Jack's former partner, by offering to finance her research into sea control. Cara, a waitress, signs on as the Kubiaks' ship mechanic, and Brother Fontana and Father Giacopetti join the crew.
