Plot summary

Cameron Edwin is a middle-aged astronomer in small-town Ohio. He presents a science program for a local station, and he once hoped to be an astronaut. His wife, Erin, is divorcing him, and their teenage daughter, Nora, and young son, Sam, live at home. Cycling home one day, Cameron sees a red sports car come down out of the sky. The unconscious man inside resembles him closely, and the newspaper names him Kent Armstrong, a successful astronaut. Kent has no memory of the crash. The producer tells Cameron that PBS wants the series only with Kent hosting it, leaving Cameron a creative consultant, so Cameron walks away from the show. Authorities then report that a Russian spacecraft landed in his backyard, and the family must stay with Erin's sister. Nora meets Marc, a new classmate.
