Plot summary
The year is 1970, and the Soviet Union national basketball team has a new head coach, Vladimir Garanzhin, who also leads the Leningrad club Spartak. He declares at a press conference that his team will beat the United States in Munich, a promise that alarms sports officials who want a strong showing in the year of the country's 50th anniversary and fear for their posts. Garanzhin replaces the roster, drawing players from clubs around the country instead of relying on CSKA Moscow, and trains them with new methods, working to convince them they can compete with the Americans. In September 1972 in Munich the final brings the two teams together, and the game comes down to its last three seconds.
