Plot summary

The Westphals learn that their son Kyle is on the autism spectrum when he is six years old. His parents fear that they may never be able to form a real connection with their own child. Kyle keeps to himself, wrapping himself in fabric and blankets and drawing away from the world around him. To reach him, his parents take an intense and radical approach: they join him in his own behaviors. The documentary spans twenty years of the Westphal family's life and mixes observational footage, archival material and animation, as the family looks back on Kyle's development with candor and humor.
