Plot summary

Ales Brabec is a shy supply teacher at a music school who writes songs. His Ribwort and Rosemary wins the festival in Krumlov, and Marcela, the singer who performed it, sees in his material exactly what the Prague basement theater where she works has been missing. Its director, Karel Soukup, is assembling several numbers for a new musical. Ales hesitates at first, but his fiancée has just left him, so he agrees to go to Prague with Marcela. Settled in with every comfort he could want, he does not write; he gazes at Marcela and falls for her. Jitka Soukupová, the director's wife, is studying psychology and argues that calm and quiet are not what he needs. Fear is. Soukup sets out to supply it.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Let Him Face the Music! (1978)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • The final scene of Jen ho nechte, ať se bojí was shot on Komenského náměstí in Žižkov, where the filmmakers took advantage of a large-scale demolition and set a sizable fire inside one of the houses. The house was torn down two days after filming, and panel blocks stand on the spot today.
  • Miloslav Šimek long refused his role in the film, arguing that he was not an actor and that the big screen would mercilessly expose it, until Luděk Sobota and Petr Nárožný talked him into it.
  • Luděk Sobota and Helena Vondráčková really grew close while shooting the comedy and afterwards had a short, six-month relationship.
  • Jen ho nechte, ať se bojí is the only film in which the popular comic trio of Luděk Sobota, Miloslav Šimek and Petr Nárožný appears together; all three turned up in Buldoci a třešně, but they had no shared scenes there.
