Plot summary
At the Domaine du Manoir, Cyril Legoff practices Taï-Chi when a golf club strikes the back of his neck and kills him. Maud Arthuis, more than eight months pregnant, is a widow; a stroke killed the father of her unborn child early in her pregnancy. She leads the investigation. Lucien Labeguerri, a private detective, assists her. Estelle, the Duchess's daughter, hires him. She believes that Cyril's recent marriage to her mother, Louise de Crémier, is an abuse of weakness. Among those close to the case are Louise's daughter, a hunter deprived of his usual land, Cyril's former girlfriend, and the steward of the manor.
