Plot summary
Four distant cousins, Seb, Abdel, Céline and Guy, come into a house in rural Normandy that has stood empty since the 1940s. They travel there to look into their family history. Inside, they find 19th-century paintings and photographs, along with letters addressed to their ancestor Adèle Vermillard, and from these they piece together her story. In 1895, at twenty-one, Adèle left the Normandy countryside and went to Paris to look for her mother. Along the way she befriends two aspiring artists, Anatole, who paints, and Lucien, who works with photography. The things the cousins uncover in the house call their own present into question.
