Plot summary
Adam Campbell is a teenage artist living with his mother Beth, a lawyer, and his sister Natalie. The Vuvv, an alien race, took over Earth by 2036, and their arrival left many humans without work or homes while the Vuvv present it as a benefit. At school, his teacher Mr. Stanley is told the Vuvv have made his job redundant. Adam grows close to classmate Chloe Marsh, whose home with her father and her brother Hunter is poor, and he asks Beth whether they can stay, and she agrees. Adam and Chloe become a couple. When both families are short of money, Chloe proposes broadcasting their romance to the Vuvv, who follow human relationships the way viewers follow a favorite show. The payments improve the house, but Adam is bothered that the nodes are always on.
