Plot summary
Billy styles himself King William and leads a traveling troupe of riders who joust on motorcycles in armor at fairs, holding the group to an Arthurian code. Money is short, and a corrupt local cop wants a payoff. Billy, riding on an injury, pushes himself anyway. A promoter named Bontempi arrives offering to represent the riders, and some in the troupe are tempted to go. Morgan, who believes the crown should be his, leads the riders who question Billy's rule. Billy's queen is Linet, and Alan is his loyal supporter. The same dream of a black bird comes to him when he sleeps.

- Knightriders was initially conceived as a proper period piece that would portray the Middle Ages in a more realistic fashion, and was rethought after Romero's experience working on racing documentaries. He has claimed the medieval hobbyist organization the Society for Creative Anachronism was one inspiration for it.
