Plot summary
Dr. Who builds Mechani-Kong, a machine shaped like the giant ape Kong of Mondo Island, and sends it to the North Pole to dig out Element X, a highly radioactive mineral found only there. Inside an ice cave the radiation ruins the robot's brain circuits and it stops working. Madame Piranha, the overseer of the government that pays for Who's schemes, scolds him for the failure, and he decides to take the real Kong instead. A submarine commanded by Carl Nelson reaches Mondo Island, where Kong fights a large dinosaur and a sea serpent and becomes attached to Lieutenant Susan Watson.

- Paul Frees voiced almost all the male characters in the English dub, except Carl Nelson, whom Rhodes Reason re-dubbed himself; Frees joked to Reason, "Why are you here? I could probably do a better version of you than you could."
- Linda Miller was furious that producer Arthur Rankin Jr. never asked her to dub her own lines for the American version while Rhodes Reason was allowed to re-dub his; Reason was in the Screen Actors Guild and Miller was a model still living in Japan.
