Plot summary
Kim Ji-young lives in South Korea with her husband, Dae-hyun, who works at an office while she stays home to raise their daughter. Before this she works at a marketing firm, where she admires Kim Eun-sil, a team leader who has risen high in the company and is a mother at the same time, despite discrimination toward working mothers in the workplace. Ji-young now feels trapped and unfulfilled and suffers from postpartum depression. In moments of stress she speaks and behaves as her mother or her late grandmother, even copying their voices. Dae-hyun notices these episodes and grows worried, so he approaches a psychiatrist for help.

- After Jung Yu-mi and Gong Yoo were confirmed to play Kim Ji-young and her husband Dae-hyun, the cast was hit with hateful comments from anti-feminists, the same backlash the Cho Nam-joo novel had drawn. Both actors said they didn't mind the haters and just wanted to do the story justice.
- A National Library of Korea study found Cho Nam-joo's novel was South Korea's most borrowed book of 2019, for the second year running, mostly taken out by women in their 40s. Loans rose 43% in October, the month the film was released.
