Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Kabhi Kabhie was written with Raakhee in mind, and she agreed to do it while Daag: A Poem of Love was being made, but before production began she married lyricist Gulzar, who wanted her to retire from acting; Yash Chopra persuaded him to let her do the film.
- The idea for the film came to director Yash Chopra while he was reading a poem by his longtime friend Sahir Ludhianvi, who went on to write the film's lyrics.
- The film reinvented Amitabh Bachchan as a romantic poet who loses his love, a major departure from his "angry-young-man" roles in Zanjeer (1973), Sholay (1975) and Deewaar (1975).
- Singer Mukesh won his final Filmfare Award posthumously, taking Best Male Playback Singer for the title track "Kabhi Kabhie Mere Dil Mein".
