Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Darr (1993)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Aamir Khan was signed to play the obsessive stalker Rahul in Darr, but Yash Chopra removed him after he asked for a joint narration with Sunny Deol so the two leads could both approve their parts without ego clashes. Khan was also unhappy with how Deol's character beat Rahul up in the climax.
- Shah Rukh Khan was cast as Rahul because Yash Chopra's son Aditya had watched his debut performance in Deewana and suggested his name. The part made Khan a star, and he went on to appear in every film Yash Chopra directed afterwards.
- Sridevi, who had worked with Yash Chopra on Chandni and Lamhe, was the first choice for Kiran in Darr, but she wanted Kiran to be the obsessed lover instead of the victim. Chopra refused to change the plot and she opted out; Madhuri Dixit was offered the role next and declined over scheduling conflicts.
- Sanjay Dutt was the original choice for the stalker Rahul Mehra in Darr but could not sign because of his conviction for illegal possession of arms. Sudesh Berry was rejected after a screen test, and Ajay Devgn declined because he was uncomfortable playing a negative character at that stage of his career.
- Rishi Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty and Jackie Shroff all turned down the role of Sunil in Darr, as did Nitish Bharadwaj, who found it not challenging enough. Sunny Deol, offered the choice of Sunil or the antagonist Rahul, picked Sunil believing a negative role would harm his career.
