Plot summary
For five years vascular dementia has kept June Wilton in a nursing home, where an adult daughter sometimes visits without being recognized. One morning she wakes completely lucid, believing she has been there only a short while. She wants to see her family, so she leaves the facility, only to find that her house has been sold, that her grown children's lives are in disarray, and that the wallpaper business she once ran is in decline. Her lucidity is fleeting and could end at any moment, so she sets about repairing her family's troubles with or without her children's consent. She also hopes to rekindle an old flame.
