Plot summary
Juha and Marja live on a farm, where the days go to fieldwork and the care of their livestock. Shemeikka, a man from the city, turns up at their place with a sports convertible that has broken down, wanting help with the repair and a bed for the night. Juha sets to work on the car. Shemeikka uses the time to court Marja, urging her to leave her husband and come away to the city with him. She refuses him at first, unwilling to abandon Juha and the life they have. Then she dreams of a new life in the city, and temptation wins. She and Shemeikka drive off together toward the city.
