Plot summary

The Lapland mine where Taisto Kasurinen works shuts down for good. In a café an older miner tells him there is no future in mining, hands him the keys to his old white Cadillac convertible and then shoots himself in the men's room. Taisto drives south to make a new start, and on the way a mugger takes the little money he has. He finds laboring work and a cheap bed in a hostel, then meets Irmeli, a metermaid with a young son named Riku. She works several jobs to pay for the few things she owns in installments. The two fall for each other.
