Jauja (2014) on Netflix

Plot summary

In 1880s Argentina, Danish Captain Gunnar Dinesen lives with his teenage daughter Ingeborg, who asks for a dog that would follow her everywhere. Lieutenant Pittaluga offers Dinesen one of his horses in exchange for permission to take Ingeborg to a dance. Dinesen refuses in clumsy Spanish, saying she is his daughter, and warns her that Pittaluga takes too much interest in young girls. Ingeborg is already involved with a young soldier, Corto. Corto reports to Pittaluga and Dinesen that Zuluaga, an officer who disappeared into the desert, leads a band of bandits and wears a woman's dress, and the men send him to bring back proof that Zuluaga is alive. Ingeborg and Corto run off in the night. Pittaluga offers to fetch her, but Dinesen goes into the desert alone.
