Plot summary

James is a theoretical physicist consumed by his research, with his sister Meredith and a fellow scientist, Courtney, as his only friends. On his way to meet Meredith he is taken by his Uber driver, who says he has come from seventeen years ahead and warns him off the work. James is skeptical, and his doubts shrink when he learns that his supervisor, Dr. Rowley, will soon gain access to a particle accelerator he needs. The older James, called Jimmy, argues the obsession will wreck his life, teaches him to meditate, and urges him to live in the moment. Meredith thinks it is time the family dealt with their parents, who died fifteen years ago, and scattered their ashes. Courtney, meanwhile, is set to leave for a post at CERN's Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland.
