Plot summary

Roy Campanella plays catcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers, part of the integration of baseball, and builds a career in the game. A car accident leaves him paralyzed from the shoulders down and puts him in a wheelchair. Recovery, physical and emotional, comes next, drawn in part from his 1959 autobiography of the same name. Sam Brockington is his physical therapist, and Ruth is his wife. Walter O'Malley, Dr. Rusk, a surgeon, his mother and his father are among the figures in his story.
