Plot summary
Tess Novak and Alex Novak have ended their marriage amicably after many years, and they now work out how to live apart while raising their sons Felix and Jude and holding on to their friendships. Alex cannot afford the cover charge at the Olive Tree Cafe, so he signs up for an open mic slot at the Comedy Cellar and starts performing there regularly. He has a fling with a fellow comic named Jill. Tess, once a professional volleyball player who competed at the Olympic Games, weighs a return to the sport as a coach. An old friend named Laird, now divorced, comes back into her life.
