Plot summary
Erwin Weishaupt is a butcher in Frankfurt with a wife and a daughter he loves. When he meets Anton Saitz and falls in love, Anton answers that he could only want him as a woman. Erwin takes the words as a literal condition, leaves his family and his trade, and has a sex change. Anton has moved on and abandoned her. A title card places the story in a year with 13 moons, a year that, the card says, can bring inescapable personal tragedies. Elvira now returns to the people and places of that earlier life, working out who she is.
