Plot summary
Anna is dead, and her mother, Marianne Grünwald, follows the trial of the man charged with the killing. In the courtroom she draws a pistol and fires seven times in a calm, determined manner, and the man dies there. Some of those watching the proceedings applaud her, and the press takes up the case. The coverage then shifts: reporters begin to dig into her private life for details they can present as disclosure, and the goodwill she had gives way to scrutiny of her as a woman. The story is drawn from the real case of Marianne Bachmeier in 1981.
