Plot summary
Cameras follow the production of Zootopia over two years, from the first spark of the idea to the drawing desks. The earliest conception draws on Robin Hood (1973), and the studio builds an anthropomorphic world of animals in a city. A research trip to Africa puts the team near the creatures they mean to animate, in their natural habitat. The harder work lies in story development: the artists initially struggle to shape a compelling tale around a downtrodden hero and a city mired in injustice, and they deal with the themes of prejudice and bias the story carries.
