Plot summary
An essay film sets the Mediterranean in two lights at once, as a real sea and as a fictional one, the place from which Icarus jumped and burned his wings. On it, liners and fishermen cross paths with migrants fleeing disaster, with rescuers, and with scientists who study what global warming does to the sea bed. Signs are revealed there. The essay asks whether the way we measure and interpret the world has become a technological excess that carries no meaning for people, so that we burn our wings. It also wonders what Euclid and Thales would make of seas that rise, and how our cynicism would look to them.
