Plot summary

Christian Laettner made a shot remembered as one of the most dramatic in NCAA tournament history, started in four consecutive Final Fours, and helped Duke to two national championships. Even so, he became one of the most disliked figures in college basketball, and the documentary looks past the polarizing figure to ask where that hostility came from. It sets out five explanations the filmmakers offer for the resentment: privilege, race, bullying, greatness, and the way he looked. It revisits episodes that shaped how people saw him, among them a stomp on the chest of a player who was down, clashes with his teammates, and the sense of entitlement many attributed to him. Extensive access to Laettner, footage not shown before, and perspectives from several sides fill out the portrait.
