Plot summary
Stanley Sugerman scouts international talent for the Philadelphia 76ers, and the travel wears on his wife Teresa and daughter Alex. The owner, Rex Merrick, promotes him to assistant coach, but Rex dies that evening and his son Vincent takes over, demoting Stanley back to scouting and sending him overseas. A scouting trip in Spain falls apart, and at a pick-up game Stanley spots Bo Cruz, an unknown with uncommon ability. Bo brushes off his approach until Stanley proves his credentials. Bo works construction, hustles at basketball, and remained in Spain when his girlfriend became pregnant with their daughter Lucia. Stanley pushes the front office to sign Bo, but Vincent is unconvinced, so Stanley pays to bring Bo to the United States.
