How to Tell a Secret (2022) on Netflix

Plot summary

The film is based on a theater show, and it sets out to take apart the stigma that still clings to an HIV positive diagnosis in Ireland. It flips the documentary form to do so and brings art to the task as well. Thom McGinty, the Diceman, is honored as one of the first people in Ireland to speak openly about having AIDS, while the rest of the film stays in the present. The stories move between young men, women who have migrated, drag artists and activists. Actors appear alongside people who are not performers, some of whom come out on screen for the first time.
