Plot summary
Jesse McLaughlin brings his girlfriend Kate to the mansion that has belonged to his family for generations. His friend Charlie Coriell arrives with his girlfriend Lana, hoping Kate, who works at a record company, will discover him. Jesse was a baby when his parents were killed in the house. In the basement he finds a photograph of his great-great-grandfather holding a crystal skull with sapphires for eyes, with Slim Reeser behind him, a partner turned enemy in a quarrel over the skull. Jesse and Charlie dig up the grave hoping to find the skull. The corpse attacks, then turns friendly when Jesse gives his name, and the cowboy zombie Gramps comes home with them. Gramps tells them the house was built from Aztec temple stones, its rooms are doorways across time, and the skull is the key.
