Plot summary

Honey O'Donahue works as a private investigator in Bakersfield, California. Mia Novotny calls her, frightened and unwilling to bring in the police, and the two agree to meet the following day. Instead Mia turns up dead in Antelope Canyon, in a wrecked car, stabbed before the crash. A homicide detective, Marty Metakawich, is at the scene; he asks her out and treats her reply that she likes girls as a joke. Mia's mother cannot explain why Mia had called. Searching Mia's bedroom, Honey comes across self-help books and a church robe. Spider, her assistant, traces the robe to the Four-Way Temple, led by Reverend Drew Devlin, who preaches action, duty, passion, and submission.
