Plot summary
Kate Conrad has just sent her son Luke off to college when her husband Drew tells her that the marriage is over, something he had been waiting for Luke to leave before saying. Kate had booked a second honeymoon in Zambia as a surprise; she decides to make the trip by herself. At the hotel bar that evening a man named Derek Holliston starts talking to her, and Kate, irritated, tells him about her situation before walking off. The next morning she boards a chartered flight to another resort and learns that Derek is the pilot. Partway there, Derek sets the plane down in the wild. The two of them find a baby elephant, traumatized because poachers killed its mother; when a rescue team arrives, Kate, a former veterinarian who no longer practices, offers her services.

- The orphaned elephant Mkaliva, rescued by Game Rangers International and Zambia's Department of National Parks & Wildlife in August 2017, closely mirrors the film's elephant: both lost their mothers and herd to the same physical and emotional trauma.
- Strict elephant management protocols and Netflix's animal welfare standards meant a body double was needed for most of the shoot, so Netflix paid for puppets made to look exactly like the real orphaned elephant Mkaliva.
- Shooting the elephant scenes at a South African sanctuary and Zambia's Game Rangers International Elephant Orphanage required a focused behavior study, personnel and distance restrictions, and international animal welfare inspectors.
