Plot summary
The special reaches back 14 billion years and finds evidence of that enormous span in the objects of daily life around us. About one percent of the white noise on an old television set is left over radiation from the Big Bang. The gold in a wedding band was forged in a star that blew apart five billion years ago, and the water inside a human body carries the salt of the earliest oceans. A narrator guides the computer-generated sweep, moving from the planet's formation and the first stirrings of life through the spread of people and the rise of civilization.
