Plot summary
Feza lives in the flat below Hilal and Fatma, two students who have come from the same town to study in Istanbul. Feza left her own village after being bullied there for being a transgender woman. She wants to become a woman, and Hilal, a pro-Muslim student, decides to help her and Fatma. The two of them see their backgrounds as polar opposites. Their meetings are not always smooth and not free of conflict. In the years after a 1997 military intervention in Turkey, Hilal and Feza struggle separately against state oppression and social prejudice and find common ground with each other.
