Plot summary

In Roman Britain in 125 AD, the Romans destroy Colin MacLeod's village and Marcus Octavius kills Colin's wife Moya. Colin wakes inside Stonehenge, the holy ground where Immortals cannot fight, and the druid spirit Amergan teaches him what he has become and the rules of the Game. For two thousand years Colin follows Octavius, who serves one powerful empire after another, from the Mongols to Nazi Germany, in pursuit of an empire of his own. In 2187 the hunt reaches a flooded New York, where Octavius rules from a fortress and plans to release a deadly virus. Colin joins the city's rebels, and meets a woman who stirs memories of Moya.

  • Seven or eight scenes in Yoshiaki Kawajiri's Japanese version of the film were cut for the U.S. release for timing and story pace, and producer H. Galen Walker said Kawajiri was really unhappy about the cut, which the other producers thought best.
  • The film was first planned to tie directly into Highlander: The Series, with that show's cast serving as voice actors, but during pre-production the producers moved in a different direction and retained only Jim Byrnes.
