Plot summary
Hemel is a young Dutch woman of about twenty-five who sleeps with strangers and keeps a close bond with her father, Gijs. Gijs works at an auction house, and since Hemel's mother died he has been with a number of younger women. Hemel joins her father at a dinner party, where he has just broken up with his girlfriend Emma, and the evening turns awkward. In the bathroom afterward, Hemel tells Emma that relationships simply run their course, and Emma says Hemel takes more than she gives. Then Gijs starts seeing Sophie, and Hemel, who has had her father to herself, finds her closeness to him under threat.
