Plot summary
Romeo Aldea, 49, works as a doctor in a small town in Transylvania. He and his wife Magda have one child, Eliza, 18, who has been offered a place to study psychology at Cambridge. The scholarship hangs on her scores in the final exams, where she needs at least 90 percent. Romeo also has a girlfriend, Sandra, a teacher at Eliza's school. Her first written exam is a day away when she is attacked near the school. Her wrist is sprained and she is badly shaken, and she says the man tried to rape her and did not manage it. The headmaster wants to bar her from the exam because a cast could hide notes; Sandra steps in and he gives way. Writing in the cast costs her time, and she cannot finish.
