Plot summary
Eddie Mallard is a down-and-out private detective in New York. A wealthy man hires him to stop his ex-wife from harassing him. Mallard takes the case, which he finds the strangest of his career and possibly more than he can handle. The woman is a socialite who supposedly drowned ten years earlier. The detective searches for her. The man who hired him is her former husband.
