Plot summary
Tarl Cabot is a professor of physics and he is socially awkward. Snubbed by his teaching assistant before a weekend getaway, he discovers that a ring in his possession is magical, and it carries him off to the planet Gor. He arrives to find a village that Sarm's army is attacking. Sarm is a priest-king who crowned himself, and he rules with the help of barbarian henchmen. His soldiers are pushing into nearby settlements to recover the Home Stone, an object with the power to open pathways between Gor and Earth. Sarm's warriors attack him too. The premise was drawn loosely from a 1966 novel, Tarnsman of Gor.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Gor (1987)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Author John Norman said Ballantine Books, which held the rights to his novels, refused to make movie tie-ins to either Gor film and ignored his letters, so his attorney bypassed Ballantine's rights department and reached Random House's legal department to get the movies made.
- Gor was shot back-to-back with its sequel, Outlaw of Gor, rather than on its own schedule: the two films were made in immediate succession.
