Plot summary
Lilian, a young artist in Brooklyn, has a widower father living in Paris with a new girlfriend, and her boyfriend Nate ends their relationship. She moves in with family friends, Don, a musician, and Julia, a famous novelist who keeps to herself. Julia and Lilian clash right away, and Lilian has no wish to live any other way than that of her hermit housemate. Running into Nate and Laura, a filmmaker he works with, Lilian says she is making a documentary about Julia to impress them. Rather than ask Julia's permission, she begins looking for cameramen and asks writers about Julia through her father's connections.
