Plot summary

Wes is distraught over his breakup with Brenda when he pulls into a remote roadside rest stop. He drinks until he blacks out and burns his possessions, pants and a box of photos among them. The next day he stumbles into the empty restroom to vomit. A voice from the neighboring stall introduces itself as Ghatanothoa. The talk turns uncomfortable, and Wes finds the door sealed shut. Ghatanothoa calls itself a demigod, the work of the primordial godfather that accidentally made the universe. Its older siblings sealed that father away, it says, but the father is free again, and it was made to destroy humanity. Fond of people now, it hides from its father and claims it can only hide by crossing into the ethereal plane, which requires a mortal's cooperation.
